Benjamin Cleary’s ‘Glimpse’, Scored by Julianna Barwick, Wins at Cannes
Glimpse, the animated interactive film from Benjamin Cleary (Swan Song) and Michael O’Connor, featuring an original score by Julianna Barwick, has won the VeeR Future Award for Best VR Interactive Experience at Cannes’ Marché du Film. The interactive film features the voices of Taron Egerton and Lucy Boynton and follows a heartbroken panda named Herbie (Egerton) who examines the memories of his relationship after recently breaking up with his deer girlfriend Rice (Boynton), all while immersing you in Julianna’s gorgeous, ethereal score.
The Cannes XR program, dedicated to immersive technologies and cinematographic content, received nearly 200 VR projects worldwide this year in the genres of live-action, animation, interactive art, documentary and narrative games. A total of 18 became finalists for awards consideration.
The winners were announced Monday by jury panelists Zhang Ziyi and Bad Robot’s Hannah Minghella, who were joined on the jury by Michel Reilhac, ILMxLAB’s Vicki Dobbs Beck and director-showrunner Kari Skogland. Lucasfilm’s Doug Chiang was the panel advisor. (Deadline)
Glimpse will have its North American premiere at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival as a selection in Tribeca VR: Best of Season (Out of Competition) starting Thursday, June 9, 2022.
Congratulations to Julianna and the whole Glimpse team!
