‘Good One’, Music Supervised by Taylor Rowley, Receives Theatrical Release

Good One, which has had a whirlwind trajectory since its world premiere at Sundance and subsequent international premiere at Cannes earlier this year, is now making its way onto the silver screen. Today marks the film’s North American theatrical release, distributed by Metrograph Pictures. Music supervised by Taylor Rowley and directed by India Donaldson, this feature debut follows Sam, a teenage girl who goes on a weekend backpacking trip in the Catskills with his father and old friend, exploring teenage girlhood, competing egos, and the nature of changing paternal relationships through the female lens.

In an interview on Roger Ebert.com, India mentions Taylor’s contribution to the final scene with glowing praise:

The film closes with Connie Converse’s “Talkin’ Like You (Two Tall Mountains),” such a beautiful and haunting song even for those unfamiliar with the mystery surrounding her life, music, and disappearance. What does that song signify to you?

Taylor Rowley, our wonderful music supervisor, had that song on a list of ideas for the end. I'd read an article about her, knew the broad strokes of the story, and loved that album. Listening to Taylor's playlist, the first lyrics of the song (“In between/two tall mountains”) were perfect, and it all clicked into place. There’s much symmetry, with this film and this artist, with this idea that life can become too much, and sometimes you just need to eject yourself from it. Obviously, there’s so much unknown about Connie Converse and what happened, but there’s also an incredible sadness in needing to disappear. You can infer so much, and I won’t do that. I’ll let the mystery remain.

Good One stars Lily Collias, James Le Gros, and Danny McCarthy, and is produced by Diana Irvine, Graham Mason, Wilson Cameron. It opens in New York August 9 at Metrograph and Film at Lincoln Center as well as in LA at the Landmark Theaters Sunset before expanding throughout August.
