Soundtrack Released: EmmoLei Sankofa’s Score from ‘The Other Black Girl’
The soundtrack for the Hulu original series The Other Black Girl, with original music by EmmoLei Sankofa (she/her), is out today on Hollywood Records and available to stream or purchase on your favorite music platform!
Produced by the Onyx Collective and based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Zakiya Dalila Harris, the show stars Sinclair Daniel, Ashleigh Murray, Hunter Parrish, Brittany Adebumola, Bellamy Young, Eric McCormack, and Garcelle Beauvais and follows an African American editorial assistant at a predominantly white publishing firm who gets excited when a new Black co-worker gets hired, but she soon discovers something sinister is going on at the company. Co-showrunners Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey are executive producing the Onyx Collective production with Rashida Jones, Adam Fishbach (Love, Victor, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies), Harris, Tara Duncan (Narcos, Sense8), as well as Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen & Wyck Godfrey (Smile, The Maze Runner).
Equal parts mystery, drama, and comedy, EmmoLei expertly weaves eerie synth pads, vibraphone, and marimba into a light yet haunting score, in addition to blending her signature percussive elements and featuring vocal motifs recorded by choral ensemble Tonality and her own vocal textures for a distinct sound that is entirely hers. The tense and unsettling nature of the music is delivered in a fresh and smart way that stems from its novel sound palette, something that will leave viewers wanting to hear more.
