Rebekka Karijord Wins 2024 NaturVision Film Music Award for ‘Songs of Earth’

The NaturVision Film Festival is the first German nature and animal film festival, founded in 2002 that has since then become a popular industry meetup event for German filmmakers and those around the world. This year composer Rebekka Karijord (she/her) has received the NaturVision Film Music Award for her intimate score to the Norwegian nature documentary Songs of Earth, directed by Margreth Olin.

The film follows director Margreth Olin and her father into the scenic glacial valley of Oldedalen in Nordfjord, Olin’s childhood home. When writing the music, Rebekka devised an unorthodox approach to scoring that involved taking field recordings of the glaciers, forest, and river within the valley and working closely with the London Contemporary Orchestra at AIR Studios to translate them into a musical, orchestral palette.

Rebekka has received numerous accolades and praise for her work on the film, including an IDA Documentary Awards nomination for Best Original Music Score, a Cinema Eye Honors nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Score, as well as making the list as one of the ACL’s Best Film Scores of 2023. We are extremely proud and excited for her continued recognition of her amazing musical prowess.
