Bio

Meet Valerie and Sian, the dynamic duo behind The Song Rep. With a shared love for music and storytelling, they've been making sure every project hits the right note since 2009. 

Together, they have shaped the sonic landscapes of countless productions, ensuring music enhances storytelling in compelling and memorable ways. They lead a talented team of music supervisors and coordinators who combine each of their unique strengths to bring every vision to life both on paper and the big screen. Where Valerie brings decades of invaluable experience, Sian brings a fresh view of the current entertainment landscape. Valerie and Sian are passionate about making music work for film and TV, building strong connections, and fully embracing the creative journey.

Valerie Biggin

Valerie Biggin is a music business veteran with over 30 years’ experience in recording, orchestral score coordination, music supervision and licensing. Still very active in the local music community you will find her either at the studio or in a club listening to the newest, latest, greatest - Music is her passion! 

Valerie started her career as an aspiring recording engineer but ended up as the President/Studio Manager for Mushroom Studios in Vancouver for over 13 years. With additional stints at SOCAN, American Federation of Musicians and Business Instructor (Sound Design Dept.) at the Vancouver Film School, Valerie’s passion and knowledge of music and its business was firmly established and respected. In late 2009, Valerie opened The Song Rep, a music placement agency that, in a very short time, placed music in MTV, MTV Canada, FOX Sports and Slice Networks, Hallmark, A&E, and independent films. It was only a matter of time before the natural progression to music supervision became the focus of The Song Rep. 

Recent projects include the Netflix series Sweet Magnolias in Season 4 , a feature film for TOEI animation, the Brat Pack documentary, a holiday Netflix film, and a feature movie for Tubi. 

Valerie is on the board of the Canadian Guild of Music Supervisors and holds a  Certificate in Entertainment Law from Osgoode/York University in Toronto and  a Certificate in Canadian Copyright Law .

Sian O’Byrne

With over 12 years of dedicated experience in the world of music supervision, Sian has built a reputation for seamlessly bridging the gap between music and storytelling. A graduate of the Arts and Entertainment Management program at Capilano University, Sian gained invaluable industry insights through internships with The Song Rep and Nettwerk Music Group, where she honed her skills in both music publishing and label operations.

Throughout her career, Sian has contributed to the success of over 200 film productions, bringing a keen ear, strategic vision, and deep industry knowledge to every project. 

Sian loves working with film creatives to encapsulate their vision through source music, and her passion for curating the perfect soundscapes has made her a trusted partner for filmmakers, ensuring that music enhances the narrative in compelling and memorable ways.

Whether navigating licensing complexities or discovering the next breakout artist, Sian thrives on creating connections that elevate projects and bring creative visions to life. Her commitment to authenticity and excellence continues to shape her journey in the ever-evolving landscape of music supervision.

Sian has worked on projects for various networks including Netflix, Hallmark, A&E, Amazon, Fifth Season, E! and has a soft spot for independent passion projects.

She is a member of the Canadian Guild of Music Supervisors and CARAS.
